Yes!  We finally got our hands on a copy of Shaping Up Summer, by Lizann Flatt and Ashley Barron and it does not disappoint.  It is the fourth book in the Math in Nature series we have been following.  These talented women have done it again.  They have cunningly hidden a series of math concepts within the colourful pages of this book.  From shapes to parallel lines to faces of three dimensional images to symmetry vs asymmetry, your child will love the little games on every page.

What better way to combine math and nature than to study the puffins, the newts and the butterflies?  Children have an endless fascination for creatures of the natural world.  Lizann and Ashley capitalize on this interest and hook your kids on  spatial sense and complex concepts by using cute natural friends like dolphins and coyotes.  At the end of this book, there is a detailed “Nature Notes” section which talks about each of the animal friends in the book as they are in nature.  Your youngling will learn why moles dig tunnels and Puffins dig burrows.   This is a great book series to get your child interested in math and nature.  Remember to look up the other titles: Counting on Fall, Sorting Through Spring, and Sizing Up Winter.
