Children’s Book Review: Fossil

Fossil

Written by Bill Thomson

What would you do if a fossil you picked up came to life?  The boy in this story, Fossil, by Bill Thompson finds out first hand.  He innocently picks up a fossil on the beach and it becomes a lush green world of ancient foliage in front of his eyes.  Then he stumbles across more fossils and they become giant creatures out of prehistoric times.  The adventure is afoot and your young one will be enthralled by the story.

Finding-fossils Children's Book Review: Fossil

Bill Thompson communicates the entire story through artistic renderings of a boy, his dog, a beach and dinosaurs from an era long extinct.  There is not a single word of text in the story, and yet we feel excitement, fear, wonder, and amazement on every page.  The boy’s cocker spaniel is whisked away by a pterodactyl and our hearts are in our throats.

What a uniquely interesting way to tell a story. A picture does speak a thousand words in this tale of excitement and adventure.
