Crocodiles live in the tropics throughout the world. They can be found in Africa, Asia, North and South America, as well as Australia.
They are usually found in freshwater rivers, lake and wetlands, but some will venture into saltwater too.Crocodiles are carnivorous, with a diet of fish, reptiles, birds and mammals.
As a tropical species, all crocodiles are extremely sensitive to the cold, unlike alligators.
There are 13 different species of crocodiles in the world. The smallest one, the dwarf crocodile, grows to about 5.6 feet, while the largest is the saltwater crocodile which has been found to be up to 20 feet long!
So which is the most dangerous?
The Nile Crocodile
Some may consider the Saltwater Crocodile to be the most dangerous, but many experts believe this is only because the population decline of the Nile Crocodile has decreased the number of yearly deaths.
So, be aware of what’s in the water and obey local signs if you live near or visiting an area that has crocodiles.
Be safe!
