On a gorgeous August morning, during our seven-day stay at Charleston Lake, we walked from our campsite to the trailhead of the park’s Quidditty Trail. The 1.2 km linear trail (2.4 km return) shares a beginning with the longer Tallow Rock Bay Trail.
The path starts out as a wide, crushed limestone path suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Two separate boardwalks allow visitors to experience the wildflowers and wildlife that thrive in the healthy wetlands at the one end of Charleston Lake. After about 300 metres the trail turns more natural and more rugged.
Winding its way through a mixed hardwood forest, hikers will find themselves taking an upward path toward an absolutely stunning scenic lookout. Chloe the Foxhound enjoyed sipping from a small stream that fed into the lake and on the way back she amazed us with her very first, intentional swim! It was very exciting for all three of us, as you’ll see in the video.
The trail was very enjoyable, easy to navigate but it definitely wasn’t flat or overly easy. Bring some water, take your time and be sure to sit and enjoy the scenes from the top. Highly recommended if you are at the park or in the area.
