“Ride co-founded Sally Ride Science in 2001, which created science programs and books for elementary and middle school students. Her program paid particular focus on encouraging girls to get more interested in the sciences. In addition to her company she also wrote and co-wrote several books on space, again aimed at inspiring children to study science.
On May 20th, 2013, during a “National Tribute to Sally Ride”, President Barack Obama issued the highest civilian award in the US, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to the late Sally Ride.
