During a summer camping trip to the Bruce Peninsula National Park, we took the opportunity to take Chloe the Foxhound to a variety of trails and towns to explore. This was her second major camping trip and she had improved quite and was learning to deal with some of her sound phobias.
The Bruce Peninsula in located in Ontario, Canada, and is situated between Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay. This formation is part of the Niagara Escarpment and features the northern part of the Bruce Trail.
Chloe loved running around the shallow sandy beaches of Singing Sands Provincial Park. They have a short trail and great swimming and it’s all dog friendly! Great new facilities too, but you do have to pay for parking 🙁
We made several drives down to Lion’s Head to go hiking, listen to a free music concert by the marina and because the beach there is also dog friendly!
There are many access points and side trails to the Bruce Trail to explore. One of them we checked out was the Cottrill Lake Side Trail. Very secluded and we didn’t see another person on the trail or the dirt road. There was free parking and a trail map at the access points.
From the campground we hiked along the shores of Cyprus Lake and went out to see the really cool, but really busy Grotto. If you really want to enjoy the Grotto, we would recommend checking it out off-season.
The Bruce Peninsula is a fantastic area for nature lovers, hikers and campers. There are so many trails and parks to explore. Supplies can be picked up in Lion’s Head or Tobermory. There are also boat cruises to Flower Pot Island that you can take from Tobermory.
