By the time we got to Chutes Provincial Park, which is located in Massey, Ontario, we had already been camping for almost 3 weeks. Maya had been hiking and swimming a lot more than expected so Chutes would be a good spot to take it easy and rest a bit.
The first day we took a leisurely walk from our campsite to the bottom of the chutes. Along the way we saw a variety of northern wildflowers and evidence that a bear have recently been wandering through the park after eating berries, if you know what I mean.
On the second day we hiked the Chutes Trail as far as the first bridge and then made our way to the pet beach to check it out. The pet area is on the river below the falls and around the bend from the main swimming area. It’s small but sanding and it has a bit of a current. We let Maya swim, on leash, to cool off and to have some fun.
The next day we set off to walk the Twin Bridges Trail which offers some amazing views of the the chutes, river and Canadian Shield landscapes.
Some of the edges were pretty steep and Chitra had to watch where Maya was to make sure she didn’t slip down the side of the trail.
Along the trail there were several spots where we could get down to the water’s edge.
Maya hung out by the blueberry bushes, which we are very happy she never discovered because she loves blueberries!
Later that day we all relaxed by one of the fires. I was outside by the firepit, while Chitra and Maya enjoyed the warmth of the electric fireplace in the Boler.
All in all, Chutes ended up being a great spot to make a stopover between some of our more active locations.
