Ferris Provinical Park is located on the outskirts of Campbellford, Ontario which is not that far from Peterborough. It was about a 30 minute drive north from Presqu’ile Provincial Park, where we were actually camping. Our weather app told us that it was going to be a fairly hot day so we decided to make a day trip to Campbellford to check out the park.
When we arrived we looked through their brochure and decided to take the fairly short 1 kilometre hike that would show up the falls and take us along the Trent River. I believe it was the Ranney Falls Trail.
Maya headed out with her Mommy to explore the new park and see what it had to offer. Chitra brought her binoculars just in case she spotted any birds that she wanted to identify.
Here Chitra is looking at her ‘bird’ brain wife who is taking a picture of her. Maya finds these interactions to be quite funny, if not embarrassing. In the above picture she seems to be amused by our silliness, or perhaps she is just a little hot.
Before starting out on any hike we usually wet Maya head down to help keep her cool. Sometimes we will also wet down her belly and if there is any clean water along the way, she always gets to at least stick her toes in.
The trail not only offered plenty of shade, but there was also a nice breeze coming off of the river. It was definitely a good decision to come here for the day and we enjoyed the short hike and the views.
After the hike it was lunch time so we drove around looking for a shady spot with a view to relax and have our packed lunch. We drove down to the boat launch area which not only had lots of shade and places to put out a picnic blanket but also a swimming spot for Maya! With snacks in her belly and wet fur keeping her cool, Maya fell asleep on the blanket while we enjoyed the view of the river and the coolness of the breeze.
