We love checking out different places in different seasons and Rock Glen Conservation Area was on our list this winter. Chitra has spent a lot of time as a children at this park, playing in the water and looking for fossils. If you like fossils you should definitely check out the museum that they have, but check the hours before you make the trip. In the museum you’ll find displays with brachiopods, corals, crinoid stems, crinoid calyx and trilobites – to name a few! It wasn’t open when we were there so Chitra and Chloe went off for a slippery walk while I captured some footage to make the video below.
Rock Glen has a great trail that goes around the falls, down to the river and then back through the forest. The trail is accessible year-round due to stairways and boardwalks but it can get slippery when wet, so be careful. During the winter, access to the base of the waterfall is not permitted for safety reasons but there are still great views. The park has a lot to offer, including being within driving distance to the Pinery Provincial Park, which makes Rock Glen a perfect day trip while camping at the Pinery or at the Rock Glen Campground. Whether you are visiting the park to visit the museum, take a hike, check out the falls or have a picnic, you’ll definitely enjoy all the park has to offer!
