The next in our Pinery Provincial Park Series is a cool, fall walk along the ancient beach of the once glacial Lake Nipissing. This 2-kilometre trail takes visitors through a mature Oak Savanna which has covered dune ridges.
During our hike, we found a huge number of wild mushrooms and Chloe spotted a group of wild turkey in a valley. The trail isn’t especially difficult or rugged but it still had us working on the way up and down the various inclines. At the top of the Nipissing Trail is a lookout platform which is the highest point in the park. From the platform, we could see Lake Huron, most of the Pinery and even part of the “Old Thedford Bog” and surrounding farmlands.
Each trail at the Pinery Provincial Park is interesting and unique. Throughout the year visitors can hike most trails at the park and witness the changes that occur seasonally. This park has so much to offer and we highly recommend you visit it for yourself.
