Highland Glen Conservation Area covers 26 acres along the shore of Lake Huron on Highway 7, northeast of Sarnia.
The drive into the park is quite beautiful. The trees create a canopy over the road and it winds down toward the lake.
Between the road in and the beach is a beautiful hillside covered in trees that filter the sunlight.
At this time, 2005, the recent invasion of the Asian Ladybug was apparent on the beach. This was just one of many gatherings on debris that I saw.
The creek that feeds into the lake here was an excellent spot for a swim for Maya. It was very clear and clean at this time of year. It was also a lot deeper than Maya expected when she went for her first retrieve. She ended up going right under the water. Unfortunately I did not get a shot of that, or the surprised look on her face when she emerged.
Maya loves to go anywhere that there is water to swim in. She innocently got her paws wet by chasing leaves as they floated down the small stream and by the end of visit to the park she was in ‘over her head’.
Fall is a beautiful time of the year to get out with your family, friends and pets. The colours are stunning in Southwestern Ontario and the temperature can be perfect for a stroll down a beach or a hike on a trail.
Maya never misses the opportunity to get her paws wet. Whether we throw a stick for her to retrieve or she finds something to chase herself, she will work in the water until we take her home.
