Always Pick Up After Your Dog
Why We Should All Pick Up After Our Dogs:
Pet waste isn’t natural fertilizer and should not be composted.
Dog feces contains parasites, bacteria, viruses and other microbes that can contaminate the soil and water.
Humans can contract certain parasites and organisms from their dogs, like Giardia, Salmonella, E. coli, roundworms and hookworms.
Rain can carry pet waste into the waterways and pollute our water.
The waste adds nitrogen to water which depletes the oxygen levels resulting in negative effects to aquatic plants, wildlife and fish.
To be good neighbours and community members.
It’s the right thing to do and it’s the law.
How to Properly Dispose of Dog Waste:
Pick it up regularly from your backyard using compostable or biodegradeable poop bags.
Pet waste can be buried. Must be at least 12 inches deep with a minimum of 8 inches of soil over it. Do not bury the waste close to vegetable gardens.
Flush the waste down the toilet. It should not be in a bag and any stones or sticks should be removed.
Put it in the trash. Landfills provide certain safeguards to protect groundwater contamination.
