Kahlil Gibran was born in the Ottoman Empire in 1883 and emigrated to the United States in 1895 with his siblings.
Gibran was an artist, poet and philosophical writer. He is best known for his book of essays, The Prophet, in which he expressed his deep religious and mystical convictions. It is said that Elvis Presley was moved by The Prophet and John Lennon used a modified version of a line in Gibran’s poem, “Sand and Foam”.
He died in New York City in 1931.
