Thanks to the partnership between Enbridge and Sarnia’s Return the Landscape, Lambton Wildlife and the Sydenham Field Naturalist groups were invited to Sarnia Solar in February 2016 to conduct a winter bird survey. More than a dozen participants showed up to help with the survey which took approximately 5 hours to complete.
Groups were sent off in opposite directions to systematically survey the area using binoculars and bird identification techniques. Birds were flushed from the grasses, spotted in trees, while others flew over the survey area. Members that participated ranged from amateur to expert birders and there were some unexpected sightings that excited the leaders – like a Meadowlark flying by.
One uncounted creature that was spotted was an extremely quick and quite large jack rabbit that seemed to run across the field instead of hopping.
