During two separate visits to the Pinery Provincial Park, I enjoyed sitting quietly at the Visitor’s Centre watching the birds and squirrels. Throughout the year the staff fill bird feeders at three different locations around the building to entice the birds and other critters to show themselves. Depending on the time of the year, visitors may spot a variety of sparrows, songbirds migrating through.
Year-round species include Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, House Sparrows, Black-capped Chickadees, Red and White Breasted Nuthatches, Downy Woodpeckers, Tufted Titmouse and House Finches (to name a few).
Visitors can also enjoy the antics of chipmunks, red and black squirrels.
Keep your eyes open for wild turkey that may come in for a quick bit.
Inside the Visitor’s Centre there are washrooms, a gift shop and some informational stations.
