On day 5 of our 26-day Provincial Park Adventure, we arrived at Bon Echo Provincial Park for a week’s stay. The week was forecasted to be quite hot, which was going to be a challenge since we didn’t have an electric site.
This was the first time we had ever been to Bon Echo, so we decided to take a walking tour and take you along with us. In part 1 we started from the north parking lot and quietly checked out the walk-in sites, but only from a distance since there were people on those sites and we didn’t want to disturb them. We then wandered around the boat launch area and then followed some walking paths to the North Beach. There were walking paths everywhere and it was very easy to get from place to place on foot.
We walked passed the Cabin on the Hill, Chloe tried to take a boat tour, but we had to inform her that dogs weren’t allowed – she wasn’t impressed. Then we walked to the Visitor Centre and Gift Shop area, but again, no dogs allowed inside. Taking a set of stairs down from the gift shop, we found amazing views of Mazinaw Rock and another walking path that wasn’t on the map. We followed that path along the shores of Upper Mazinaw Rock and made our way back to the north parking lot.
Bon Echo Provincial Park was very walkable, which was a surprise to us because the map made the distances seem a lot farther than they were. We highly recommend you take time to do your own walking tour of the park to really appreciate it.
