Early Winter Walk Through Strathroy’s Cuddy Woods

Cuddy Woods is a small property on Mullifarry Drive, just north of Strathroy, Ontario. The land was donated to the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation back in 2012 and visitor’s are welcome to hike it’s 0.5 kilometre trail.

So, on a day trip to the Strathroy area in November of 2016, we decided to take Maya to some new places that she had never been. We were also looking for short hikes that wouldn’t tire her out too much.Nature-Lover-Cuddy-Woods-Strathroy-Winter_5436_Nov-27 Early Winter Walk Through Strathroy's Cuddy Woods

There’s a small parking lot at the entrance and we were the only ones there.

Chitra and Maya checked to make sure dogs were allowed and they were! Of course dogs have to be on leash and be sure to pick up after them! It’s always nice to see that motorized vehicles aren’t allowed at a park.

This was the first snow Maya has seen this year and she took full advantage of it. She loved to eat snow during the winter. We always thought she believed it was free food with zero calories! Does your dog enjoy eating snow?

It was a beautiful sunny day with big, white. fluffy clouds that were reflected on the calm surface of the pond.

Along the edge of the trail we spotted this really cool looking birch tree that we are seeing more often. We believe it is a Weeping Birch, which is a European species that does well in a lot of North American locations, like this.

We walked out to the end of the trail without going through what appeared to be an newly planted area of trees. Off in the distance we could see several windmills turning in the light breeze.

Bring a blanket and have a nice picnic on the hill overlooking the pond. Wander down to the dam and look for wildlife. I’m not sure if there are any fish in the pond but I’m sure you’d be able to spot some waterfowl, especially during migration.

After the short walk we went for a drive and headed into Strathroy to look for a few more short walks to take Maya on. What a fantastic day to spend with your family. Take the time to go for day trips to new places!
