On our last day of fall camping, we hiked one of the trails at the Pinery Provincial Park that runs parallel to the Old Ausable River. The trail features oak savanna, scenic outlooks along the river and a boardwalk. The boardwalk is often surrounded by a variety of birds and small mammals on one side, while the other side gives visitors the ability to spot turtles, dragonflies, frogs, fish and more birds.
When we reach the river there isn’t a lot of activity on such a chilly day but the reflections were absolutely flawless.
Be on the lookout for wildflowers, mushrooms and other plant life that thrives in these ecosystems. Bring a camera or binoculars to get a closer look at all the wildlife that is attracted to all the spring-fed river has to offer.
