Beginner rock climbing and spelunking near Wiarton Ontario!
Bruce’s Caves are located just east of Wiarton, Ontario, and are part of the Bruce Trail and the Niagara Escarpment. The park features a hiking trail to the caves where hikers can try out some splunking and climb along the rock face. There are small tunnels that can be found that leads to the top of the escarpment, or you can hike along the bottom edge, climbing where necessary.
The caves were formed from wave action over 7000 years ago and continue to change as water enters the rock and then falls from the cliffs. Hikers should be very careful where they hike and where they stand due to falling rock.
Along the trail and the rock face, there are a variety of native plants including beautiful and delicate ferns. The cool, shady, moist area is perfect on hot days and throughout the year.
If you are visiting the Bruce Peninsula, camping at a nearby Provincial Park or touring the Wiarton area, pack a lunch and spend part of your time hiking, spelunking and exploring Bruce’s Caves!
