The only trail open during our two-day stay at Fitzroy Provincial Park was the 2-kilometre Terraces Trail. After getting the truck fixed, visiting Morris Island Conservation Area and checking out Arnprior we had our dinner and then made our way to the trailhead.
Chitra showed off her knowledge of the geological history of the trail (thanks to reading the brochure ahead of time) and Chloe struggled to keep her nerves under control as planes flew overhead and other loud, abrupt noises interrupted her walk.
Along the way, we spotted Pileated Woodpeckers, Northern Flickers and even a White-tailed deer. The trail featured several layers of various coloured shale and erratic boulders left from the retreating glaciers.
Terraces Trail was a well maintained, moderate to easy trail with a lot of interesting history and a small waterfall that would be lovely in the spring or after some rainfall. The hike was a highlight of our stay at Fitzroy Provincial Park during our epic summer camping adventure.
