Going into our 4th week of camping we spent several days at Mississagi Provincial Park, north of Elliot Lake. Our stay coincided with another hot spell that limited our hikes and increased the black fly annoyance. The park was small and had very few facilities. There were no electric sites, no comfort stations and at night it was probably the darkest I’ve ever seen it.
We spent our days exploring the shorter travels at the park, keeping to shaded paths to stay cool.
We kept Maya cooler by wetting her head and belly down and encouraging her to take dips in the rivers and lakes nearby.
Mornings and evenings were the best times for us to venture out and see what the park and the area had to offer. Tall pines hid a variety of birds that sang beautiful morning songs.
In the evenings we took refuge in the trailer to avoid the biting insects that were out in full force during the third week of July. We rarely felt to start a fire because it was so hot, and so buggy.
The area offered several other trails to explore, including Flack Lake Nature Trail and Cobre Lake Trail.
We found this lovely spot along Flack Lake and took the time to relax and have a snack. Maya checked out the water’s edge and got her toes wet while getting a good drink of cool water.
Our stay was fairly short but rejuvenating. The park was rustic, fairly quiet and very secluded.
Maya continued to do well with nice walks, tons of breaks and a lot of napping. At night we enjoyed late night concerts put on by the local frogs, loons and owls. It was extraordinary.
