Maya The Nature Dog Hits Killarney’s Trails

We arrived at Killarney Provincial Park on our 28th day of camping for the summer. Maya was enjoying the hikes, swimming and having a trailer to nap in during the evenings and to avoid the bugs.

In the morning we were still at the RV park on Manitoulin Island and she was so frisky during her morning walk that it was like she was a young dog again. It was so wonderful to watch, I would have loved to have captured it on video.

Killarney’s hikes were a little difficult for Maya at about 13 years old, but we took our time, helped her when she needed it, and turned back whenever necessary. She has always enjoyed camping and experiencing new places and all that they have to offer and this park was no different.

George Lake Campground has a fantastic dog beach that is sandy, shallow and even has a lot of shade on shore. The only downside is that there is a bit of a steep part to get from the beach up to the grassy area. We did find that most campers seem to be using this beach even if they didn’t have dogs. Makes it more difficult for dog owners because they have a tendency of expecting dogs to be quiet and stay out of their space. That’s why it’s a dog beach and there’s a separate beach for people without dogs. Seems obvious enough to me, but who am I?

The dog beach is located near the western side of the lake. So look for the smaller numbered sites to the ‘left’ of the park office.

Which is the dog beach at George Lake? Looking to reserve a site closer to the dog beach.
