The planning for any major trip like this started more than 5 months in advance. We decided to focus the summer’s trip on making it as far across the province as possible and to visit several different provincial parks during that trip.
The first stop was designed to get us past the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and into central Ontario, where we have rarely camped. Using Balsam Lake Provincial Park as our first destination allowed us to spend 7 hours the first day but all of the other days (except the last) would be more reasonable in length. We also have friends that live in the area, so we could explore a new park and get to visit them.
This meant that only the first and the last parks would be in the central area of the province, as far as Ontario Parks is concerned. All of the rest of our stays would be in parks in the Southeast part of Ontario. Except for Presqu’ile Provincial Park, this would be the first time we have ever visited any of the parks on this trip!
My goal was to film as many of the trails and points of interest at each park, which can be found in posts on this website and on our YouTube Channel. The full gallery of episodes can be found at the bottom of this post, as they are added.
Here is the itinerary we created before leaving so that we could keep track of the dates and times of our stays, plus the driving times and our site #:
