“Save the sharks and save the ocean.”
Canada’s three oceans are home to 28 species of sharks but Canada is not considered to be shark-friendly because so many are caught as bycatch. Bycatch, in the fishing industry, refers to any fish or marine species that is caught unintentionally due to fishing techniques. Modern fishing equipment, although very efficient, is highly unselective and causes a lot of injury and death to marine species and can be very harmful to marine environments.
