The elephant is the largest mammal on earth and it is in trouble. There use to be large herds of elephants in Africa and Asia, but since the 20th century those numbers have been decimated primarily due to the ivory trade. Some populations have made a come-back but they are still at risk from poaching, conflict and habitat destruction.
