During our Provincial Park Adventure, 2019, we stayed at Rideau River Provincial Park for a few days. The park itself was quite small and only had one trail so we ventured outside of the park to find more places to explore. Luckily for us, a short drive away was the Ferguson Nature Trails that offered a variety of hikes for us to enjoy. I usually try to research extra trails and parks before we start these trips so that we have other options in case there aren’t enough trails, trails are closed, or Chloe is being reactive and needs a change of scenery to overcome her anxiety.
The first hike of the day was on the Beech Trail which we extended by taking the Maple Trail back. This trail system is interconnected which means you can do one trail at a time, or you can lengthen your hike by adding them together in numerous ways. The maps are located at the trailheads and they not only have unique names, but also unique colours and symbols. The paths were well-maintained and very easy to navigate. What a fantastic find!
If you have a dog, be sure to check out their dog park too! It has two different areas, lots of shade in the larger dog section and it is properly enclosed to keep your furry friends inside and safe. I wish more towns and cities invested in such nice dog-friendly parks! Having said that, be sure your dog is good with other dogs and keep an eye on them when they are interacting with new ‘friends’.
