What a wonderful book about the seasons. In this book, Barney Saltzberg sneakily introduces the seasons by describing the fun activities we do outdoors at each time of year. Who doesn’t like to climb trees, have snowball fights, walk barefoot in the grass, play on a swing set or go fishing with our feet hanging lazily in the water? The lovely illustrations on each page are detailed, and colourful. Barney is not only the author, but the illustrator as well. His drawings make you want to jump into the picture and immerse yourself in the activities.

The author takes your young person on a whirlwind tour of the best outdoor activities to enjoy at each time of year. He takes us kite flying, swimming, playing in the leaves, stomping in mud puddles, sleeping in a hammock, building a snowman, and exploring our backyards for interesting bugs.

It is an idyllic look at the kinds of outdoor activities that we adults remember fondly from our youths that kids in this era have yet to discover: The activities that have helped to shape us into the caring people that we are.

A must read with your little tykes. Good for many story time “I remember when…” musings. When we use a book like this as a catalyst for connecting with our kids, the positive repercussions are uncountable.
