The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau
Written by Dan Yaccarino
If you remember rushing through dinner on Friday nights to get a good seat in front of the T.V for the Jacques Cousteau show, then you will love to introduce this world of awe and amazement to your young one. Jacques Cousteau ’s name has been the leading name in undersea exploration from 1950 to 1997. He invented the aqua-lung, the underwater camera, and submersible exploration vessels in his quest to bring the wonders of the ocean to everyone. His boat, The Calypso, had thousands of adventures in almost every sea, ocean, and river across the globe as we eagerly watched from our living rooms.
This book is an excellent junior research book for a young child looking to learn about a heroic person of our times. The text is written in a simple style with different colour palates on each page. One page is yellow and purple, the next is red and orange. A very visually appealing biography. At the end of the story, there is a handy facts page filled with more information on the life and times of Jacques Cousteau.
Your child will be drawn into the story of a skinny weak little boy who found everything he needed to be great in the arms of the ocean. The story unfurls like an epic tale of bravery and ingenuity. Jacque Cousteau’s life history is just the kind of story that will inspire your child to push past adversity and achieve his or her dreams. The added bonus comes in explaining to your young person just how important and inspiring Jacques was in your own upbringing.
