Day Trip To Sandbanks Provincial Park With Maya

Back in 2016, while camping at Presqu’ile Provincial Park, we took a day trip to Sandbanks Provincial Park. We had never been to this area before and wanted to explore as much of it as we could, since it’ quite far from home. We arrived at lunchtime and found a nice little spot beside the Outlet River to enjoy our lunch, which Maya helped us with. After some delicious leftovers we took Maya down to the designated pet area and she wandered around in the cool, sandy waters for a while. It was an extremely hot day, so we were so excited to discover that the park had a pet beach that she could cool down in and enjoy.

After Maya had had her fill of the beach we went for a drive around the park to check it out. The park was very busy and very popular, both for camping and for day-use activities. There were five different campgrounds (including group camping), three large beaches and three hiking trails. We stopped at the Lakeland Lodge area and found a nice shaded tree to park under to relax, read and enjoy the breeze coming off Lake Ontario.

As the day started to cool, we decided to hike park of the Dunes Trail before making our way back to our campsite at Presqu’ile. The trail was 2.5 kilometres long, had enough shade for the part that we hiked and there were a lot of wildflowers along the path.

The park was too busy for our liking but obviously very popular for others. If you are in the area it is worth a visit for the beautiful beaches and nice facilities.
