Discovering Balsam Lake Provincial Park – Part 2

Balsam Lake was a great park to stop at for the first leg of our trip. It took us over seven hours to get there but then each of the other days, except the last, was much shorter. On our one full day at the park, we hiked the Lookout Trail, which was about 2.6 kilometres long. We hiked through a variety of landscapes, including cedar groves, swamps, eskers and kames. At the top of the trail we had a panoramic view of the area and listened to birds singing, including our favourite, the White-throated Sparrow.

In the afternoon we had friends come to visit, so we spend time around the campfire catching up and snacking on delicious food and snacks. After they left for home, we took Chloe back to the beach, after which we read and Chloe relaxed. She was doing great with the new surroundings and being on the road.

The next morning, before packing up the trailer to head to Silent Lake Provincial Park, we hit the Plantation Trail. I had hoped to do another video but my gimbal failed to link up with the camera and the trail was so buggy we ended up walking extremely fast just to complete it. The summer had been very wet which has contributed to the number of biting insects but the trail was also a bit overgrown. On the bright side, the White-throated Sparrows sang us along as we almost ran the trail!
