Part 2 of our walking tour around Bon Echo Provincial Park starts in the parking lot for the Visitor Centre and Amphitheatre. From there we walk down to a beach you won’t find on the maps, but which has a wonderful view of the Mazinaw Rock. From the beach, we continue on some of the walking paths toward the Narrows which was the closest we got to the cliffs without being in a boat or canoe. This area is great for watching the sunset, having a picnic or watching climbers on the rock face.
Continuing along the shoreline paths, we made our way to the lagoons, where campers can launch boats or rent canoes, kayaks, SUPs and paddleboats. Chloe and Chitra take a shortcut while I show you the Main beach before meeting up with them at the footbridge that takes us to the designated Pet Exercise Area and Beach. This fairly large leash-free area features a sandy beach and a wide-open field. Parking is near the Mazinaw Creek and there are picnic tables and some shade.
Beyond the pet area is the day-use section of the park which has its own sandy beach with picnic tables and washrooms. This is also where you can enjoy a charity BBQ every Saturday, put on by the Friends of Bon Echo.
Back through the pet exercise area, over the footbridge and through the beach parking lot, we continue on to the Amphitheatre but not before spotting a Vireo nest!
What a fantastic park for walking. There are footpaths everywhere through the main part of the park and lots of spots to picnic and to enjoy the ever-changing views of the Mazinaw Rock!
