Gut Lake Trail is a 2.5 kilometre looped trail at Grundy Lake Provincial Park which is south of Sudbury, Ontario. The trail starts at a parking lot at the northern mouth of Gut Lake. As the trail follows the rocky shoreline of Gut Lake, hikers will see campers jumping for the cliffs into the clear water and others canoeing up and down the lake.
Along the trail there is evidence of the glacial retreat in the form of chatter marks, gouges, fractures and potholes. In one area there is even a rock wave that has been eroded, and Chitra decided to try to ride it. The trail goes through various zones including upland forests, rocklands and wetlands. We saw some beautiful wildflowers and some wildlife, including a couple of mink that ran across the trail, right in front of us.
Gut Lake Trail is probably the nicest trail at Grundy Lake, at least the year that we last went. Some of the other trails, which had boardwalks, were in need of some desperate repair. Hopefully some money will be injected into the park and the trails will be maintained for visitors to enjoy.
