First Time At Fitzroy Provincial Park Near Ottawa

After leaving Bon Echo Provincial Park, we drove to Renfrew to fill up the truck and get some baked goods. We then continued on to Fitzroy Provincial Park, located north of Ottawa, along the Ottawa and Carp Rivers. The park features 200 sites, two trails and two beaches.

We set up the trailer and were very excited to have an electric site after spending 3 days at Silent Lake and 7 days at Bon Echo with only intermittent solar charging of the trailer battery.

We walked Chloe to the boat launch area in the evening and discovered 5 monarch caterpillars in one small area of milkweed plants! Along the shore, we found the remains of clams that were washed up during the spring flooding that occurred in the area. Chloe enjoyed sniffing these curious things and getting a drink from the Ottawa River.

In the evening I enjoyed a small campfire even though the area was under a fire ban. Provincial parks often are an exception to fire bans and will allow small, attended fires in the evenings.

Bright and early the next I took the truck to a local Nissan to have our back gate window hinges replaced. One of them had broken while we were at Bon Echo, and the other one was also damaged. What a great way to spend a morning! And an expensive one too. We were very thankful that they could get the part for us with only a day’s notice though.
