Thanks for watching our fourth video in our Algonquin Park 2018 series.
In this video we take you along on two separate trails along Highway 60, Hemlock Bluff and Bat Lake Trail.
During our hikes we saw only a few other hikers, compared to some of the shorter, more popular trails. Hemlock Bluff Trail is 3.5 kilometres long with a spectacular view of Jack Lake from a lookout along a cliff. There are some fairly steep areas but it is well worth the effort.
Bat Lake Trail is 5 kilometres long and starts and ends with flat sections of sandy pine trees. Several steep sections can be challenging, especially if it is slippery from rain. A beautiful meandering river falls down the hillside and along the way there are wonderful vistas.
Bat Lake itself is a quiet, secluded spot that often floods the trails and boardwalks but it is peaceful, if the biting insects don’t get you! Don’t let the water fool you though, it’s quite acidic and not for drinking, fishing or swimming.
Each of Algonquin’s trails are unique and enjoyable to hike depending on your physical abilities and how long you want to take. Every trail has opportunities for stopping to take breaks, whether there is a bench, a rock, or a tree root to sit on.
Bring water, a snack or your lunch and enjoy the trails at Algonquin Park!
