Jobes’ Woods Trail is one of several hiking trails at Presqu’ile Provincial Park, near Brighton, Ontario. The trail is only 1.3 kilometres long and travels through upland forests, swamp areas and some meadows that were previously farmed. It is a beautiful trail that can be enjoyed throughout the season and the boardwalks make it perfect even during rainy periods. The short but scenic trail features old maples, vernal pools and a variety of plant and wildlife.
We hiked the trail several times as well as making a short video (see below). It was a great trail for our old Maya who was having difficulty with longer and more rugged trails.
You might be able to see from the above picture how the strength in her back legs is decreasing. We were doing some strength training and some other exercises to help with this but at 14 years old there is only so much that can be done.
While I was taking pictures or videotaping she would quietly lay down and have a bit of a reast while enjoying the smells and sounds of the forest.
There were a variety of ferns throughout the shaded trail, including these Sensitive Ferns. They are also called Bead Fern and their stalks will be present throughout the winter.
Much of the trail was made up of a very wide and well maintained boardwalk. This makes the trail a great choice for children, strollers and even wheelchairs.
Bracket fungi was thriving on some of the dead stumps, as well as Turkey Tails.
We spotted these ‘trumpet’ shaped mushrooms growing on another fallen log. You can see some mold, or is it lichen, growing on it.
It was also a fantastic year for Heal-all, which was growing in large patches along part of the trail.
We found some raspberries in the meadows, but most of them berries weren’t ripe yet, so we left them for the birds.
Jobes’ Woods Trail is a fantastic little hike that is cool on a hot summer day, vibrant during or after rain and full of plants and wildlife to enjoy.
