14 years old and Maya was still loving the beach and water. She had lost some of her buoyancy so we had invested in a life jacket for her to keep her safe and to give us some piece of mind.
The great thing about the water is that swimming is the absolute best exercise for anyone, including a dog, who has joint issues. It helps build muscle to stabilize joints and it is low impact so it won’t put undue strain on them.
Maya enjoyed the snowy beaches in the winter and the cool refreshing ones in the summer. Every drop of water that we could find for her we would let her in, if it was safe and if it was warm enough. It’s also been a great way to keep her cool on some of those blistering hot camping days. We would find some water and some shade and spend the day trying to keep cool.
