We spent three nights and four days at Halfway Lake Provincial Park. We were 14 days into our trip and Maya was still doing amazingly well, with help and rest in between. She thrives in new locations, with new smells and new experiences.
Maya was ready to start her 6 kilometre hike along the Echo Pond Trail through the southern part of the boreal forest. She was wearing her bear bell just in case, we were in Bear Country, after all.
Maya and her Mummy looked out over the forest. Maya was safe from the bugs after being sprayed down with Flick spray but her Mummy had to protect herself with a mosquito net over her head.
There were so many new smells from animals and plants that Maya didn’t know where to check next. We had to be careful to keep her away from edges and depressions.
After the hike we took Maya to the boat dock to a dip. It is located near a river and the water was cool and clear. The park doesn’t have a designated pet beach but dogs can usually swim at most boat launches.
After a long 6 km hike Maya was happy to take a well deserved nap in the trailer. The rest of the trip involved quiet evenings by the fire, leisurely walks around the park and ice cream.

March 1, 2019 at 9:59 amYes the bugs were quite bad and very annoying. I’m not sure what is worse, the bites or the buzzing.
July is usually prime black fly season in northern Ontario so wearing some insect protection helps to improve the enjoyment of some of the trails.
