Presqu’ile Provincial Park is located on the shores of Lake Ontario near the town of Brighton, Ontario. The park offers camping, 16 kilometres of trails, visitor centres, interpretive programs, beaches and is a hotspot for spring and fall migration.
The beaches range from sandy to rocky and run along the southern border of the park. The main beaches, which are sandy, are located in the centre of the peninsula but visitors can also swim near the campgrounds. The shoreline near the camping areas are rocky and much deeper than the more sheltered designated beach areas. There is also swimming at the picnic areas but visitors are warned not to swim past a certain point toward the point since there are strong currents there.
While walking down the rocky beach in front of the campgrounds I came across sections that had fossils embedded in the rock. I enjoyed searching the area for a variety of fossils. The park information says that there are gastropods, brachiopods, crinoids, cephalopods, trilobites, conulariid, bivalves and bryozoans along the shorelines and more and more are exposed due to water erosion.
