Day 2 and episode 2 of our Provincial Park Adventure, and we were still camping at Balsam Lake Provincial Park, just east of Orillia, Ontario.
On our one full day at Balsam Lake, we take an early morning hike on the park’s Lookout Trail. In this ‘Off The Cuff’ video, we get silly on the trail while avoiding the massive number of mosquitoes that chase through the hike. Chitra tries to make a wish with a Goat’s beard seed pod, Chloe the Foxhound leads the way and tries to get muddy, and Tricia wishes she hadn’t tied her shoe during the hike.
The Lookout Trail started on an esker that was formed over 10,000 years ago! During our hike, we passed through a variety of landscapes, including a cedar swamp, deciduous forest and an open meadow at the top. The trail was well marked and groomed and provided a beautiful panoramic view at the top. This trail also joins up with Lorie’s Trail which hikers can take to the Plantation Trail, which would make it a pretty long hike, so pack some water and snacks.
After this hike, we went for a dip in the lake, which was quite refreshing. Later in the day, we had friends visit us from Peterborough.
