Relaxing Sounds And Fascinating Hike At High Falls, Levack

While camping at Windy Lake Provincial Park, just north of Levack, Ontario, we hiked beside High Falls. The trail can be accessed either from the A.Y. Jackson Lookout parking lot, or you can park on the side of the road closer to the bridge that crosses the Onaping River.

This area was hit by a massive meteorite which created the Sudbury Crater almost 2 billion years ago and this particular section is part of the northern edge of the crater. In the parking lot there is a walking tour of rocks that can be found in Sudbury including one called “Onaping Formation” which can be found along the bare bedrock on either side of the river.

In the video below you’ll see some shots of high speed and temperature impacts to the rocks along the river – which were really cool. The trail started out quite rugged and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t somewhat fit and able to climb on rocks and boulders. I would also imagine that the rocks would be quite slippery if wet, so be cautious.
