After hiking the Varna Nature Trails, we took a drive and ended up at the Lucan Conservation Area. The small park is located on Highway 4, just west of the town of Lucan. There are a variety of looping trails that are not marked but are easy to follow. The hike took us through small hardwood forest along the flooded Little Ausable River.
There were some picnic tables and their site says there was a barbeque that you could cook something on. Pets are expected to be leashed and please pick up after them. Along the trail Chloe rolled in something nasty so she got to enjoy a ‘snow rub down’.
Due to its size, this park wouldn’t be suitable for a long day of hiking or hanging around. However, if you are on your way through the area and would like a short walk and a place to have a picnic, this conservation area might just work.
There are no fees to use the park and there are very few facilities. Their map shows a bathroom but it must only be brought out during the summer seasons because we didn’t see one.
