The Hawk Beach is located on Cape Sable Island, which is part of the most southern tip of Nova Scotia. The area was named after a schooner that washup up on the shore back in the 1800’s.
The beach is a very important area for birding and there is said to be a 1500 year old drowned forest there, but it is only viewable at low tide, so we didn’t get to see it or photograph it.
Off in the distance we could see the Cape Sable Lighthouse and it was blowing its horn due to fog coming off the ocean. We spotted quite a few plovers and their babies, as well as Double-crested Cormorants sunning on the rocks.
