During a day trip away from Algonquin Park we headed out the east gate in search of some Non-Operating Provincial Parks. We weren’t that successful but we eventually ended up in Barry’s Bay and took a drive around to find a park to make dinner in.
We drove around this very small and somewhat touristy town and found a narrow park along the Madawaska River. The park had a paved trail, benches and picnic tables. There was a lot of litter that was pretty disappointing, considering the view was quite pleasant.
At the time we didn’t realize that the water was a river and not a lake. The Madawaska River is 230 kilometres long and eventually empties into the Ottawa River.
Since it was a very hot day we decided against making a cooked dinner and had a camper’s stable meal – cold spaghetti from a can, or as we like to call it ‘Zoodles’ (the type we bought). Don’t laugh, it’s easy because all you need is a can opener, a spoon and either crackers or bread. We also had a cup of tea made from the thermos we had prepared before leaving the campsite.
Maya enjoyed her normal dog food in what seemed to be an abnormally small bowl for such a large dog.
