Pillar Rock Beach At Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Just north of our campground at Cheticamp, we pulled over to check out Pillar Rock Beach. The rocky beach was littered with driftwood, seaweed and fishing debris. We spotted a dead crab sitting on a washed-up telephone pole and Chitra picked up a rock divided in half by quartz. This day was particularly beautiful with the sun shining and gentle waves were crashing upon the shore. Pillar Rock sat at the end of a cliff with the St. Lawerence washing up around the eroded rock. on top of the largest rock sat several Cormorants each time with visited the location. Later in the week, during a rainy, overcast day we made lunch on the beach.

The park has lots of places to stop to view gorgeous vistas, to explore quiet beaches and to have a quick picnic. We barely scratched the surface of the park when we stayed there for a whole week.
