The Tablelands at Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland is out of this world. Honestly, it seems like the landscape doesn’t fit into its surroundings. When we first saw the flat red mountains, we were in awe.
We hiked the 4 kilometre trail that led us to 2 separate waterfalls and several smaller streams, which Maya put her toes in. The rocks and soil are a burnt red and makes you think of Mars. I’ve read that the rock originated from the Earth’s mantle and it was forced up several hundred million years ago when a tectonic plate collision occurred. The park has tours that you can take that would definitely explain the geology of the location better than me but it’s enough to say that hiking the Tablelands will be an amazing experience.
