What We Ate During Our 2019 Provincial Park Adventure! 25 Days Of Meals

Food isn’t just a necessity, it’s an important part of camping for us. We often joke that we eat better when we are camping than at any other time. Some meals are prepared ahead of time and then frozen, others are ‘on-the-fly’. When you are camping for 25 plus days and travelling over 2000 kilometres during that time, you have also be spontaneous. So, below is a list of all of our dinners during our trip. We have a few videos of us preparing some of the meals, a few posts of others and some were dehydrated and others were right out of the can.

We hope you might find some inspiration for your own camping trips and let us know in the comments what other suggestions you might have for our future trips!

  1. Zoodles & bread – quick meal when you arrive late at a campground.
  2. Hot dogs, baked beans and potato salad – it’s a camping stable that we infrequently eat.
  3. Campstove pizza – so many versions to enjoy. On this day we had basil pesto on one and tomato pesto on the other.
  4. Soup – just a basic can of soup when you’re tired or hungry
  5. Chicken Quesadillas – add your favourite ingredients, like rotisserie chicken, bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, etc.
  6. Dehydrated Rustic Spaghetti – a homemade pasta which we then dehydrated. Very delicious, fairly quick and cheaper than those you can buy at a camping supply store.
  7. Basil Parmesan Orzo with a salad – quick to make, and very tasty.
  8. Leftover Orzo – we love leftovers and hate wasting delicious food.
  9. Chicken Couscous – very quick meal if you have pre-cooked chicken, which we did.
  10. Thai Chicken and rice – we cooked and portioned the thai chicken out at home and freezed it.
  11. Leftover Thai Chicken
  12. Blueberry Pancakes and maple syrup – I love pancakes for any meal.
  13. Zoodles & bread – another late arrival at a park
  14. Tacos – a great meal when you have a bunch of veggies on hand. We made chicken in taco sauce at home, froze it and added it to our veggies.
  15. Turkey burgers, sweet potato fries and roasted red peppers and mushrooms. We love this meal, when we can find turkey burgers. Next year we may have to handmake them.
  16. Cantonese Fried Rice – this is a package of spices that we added to rice. We also sauteed up chicken hotdogs, frozen vegetables and eggs to make it a full meal.
  17. Swiss Chalet – we were in Brockville getting supplies and decided to pick up rotisserie chicken and fries from the restaurant.
  18. Egg salad wraps – we usually make up at least two days worth of egg salad for sandwiches.
  19. Hot dogs and beans – we actually had them twice! This may be a record for us.
  20. Chicken stew and bannock – a quick and easy chicken stew cooked over the campfire and then some homemade herbed bannock. We will definitely be making that again!
  21. Leftover stew – you knew there had to be leftovers!
  22. Mac & chesse with hot dogs – just a box of white cheddar mac and cheese (President’s Choice brand).
  23. Dehydrated spaghetti – another of our homemade dehydrated meals. Perfect for making dinner in the park since all you need is the vacuum-sealed bag, water and a stove.
  24. Chickpea Hash – this was the first time we made this. Quite a heavy meal of chickpeas, peppers and eggs.
  25. Chicken and mushroom fried rice – we love fried rice and all you need is day-old rice, vegetables, eggs and some soya sauce. Of course, ours wasn’t quite that simple but you get the idea.
