Day trips are awesome, or so Maya thinks. Heading out early in the truck has meant drives to local parks, new trails, new smells and lots of extra treats! Even as she ages, Maya still gets excited about our trips, in her understated way. It was a gorgeous day to spend exploring a new area of Southwestern Ontario. We packed a lunch and snacks and jumped in the truck! The early afternoon was still a bit cool so Maya went with her sporty blue, light jacket.
She could tell it was going to be a great day and she hoped she could keep up with the walking requirements. What she didn’t know is that we planned this day with her in mind. We would be checking out several different spots by taking short hikes in and then resting in between.
Our first stop was Skunk’s Misery and a short walk as far as the mud held out. Of course we had to have a nice warm bowl of soup before that and Maya enjoyed her chicken broth. The day was starting out right for her.
After a short nap in the truck we headed to our next location, Wardsville Wood. Before we started on our next short walk, Maya got a prisk pet that she thoroughly enjoyed. The sun was out and it warmed up enough for Maya to just wear her harness for this walk.
We walked in a ways and found lots of sights and sounds to enjoy on an easy, flat path. Maya loves new locations and checking out all the little spots with the best scents.
After we turned around on the trail we made it back to the parking lot in time for a mid afternoon snack. What? Treats? Maya was definitely in!
The last stop was at Big Bend Conservation Area. There wasn’t much in the way of trails so Maya just explored the area around the rivers edge before it was time to head home for dinner. There was just enough time for a bit more soup to tie her over.
Senior dogs still need to exercise and work their brains. New places, short walks and lots of love is what every older dog needs. Take yours for a walk now!
